Personal Chef Logo Concept
A concept for a personal chef logo that unfortunately didn't make it to fruition. I thought I'd share it anyway.

Small Tabs Logo
Small Tabs is a project that I'm working on with two of my friends. It will be a website devoted to daily food and drink specials for Chicago bars — helping you find the best deals in town so you can keep your bar tabs small.

Nourish Business Identity
Nourish Personal Chef is the one-woman operation of Chef Stephanie Ito. She aims to provide a healthy alternative to cooking from scratch or ordering out. The letterhead and business cards were letterpressed, and the website was designed and hand-coded by yours truly.

Rock Solid Ad Campaign
This magazine ad was created for Horizon Hobby to remind their customers that they can trust the rock solid reliability of Zenoah Model Aircraft engines. It was a hard-sell to the client that their product be shown in less than perfect condition, but once they were on board with the concept, it was a lot of fun to weather the engine so that it looked like it had run hard.

USRA Event Posters
Posters for the USRA World Championship Series. 2004 on the left, 2005 on the right. The challenge was tapping into two completely different visual styles that still made sense in the context of air racing. The airplanes in these races can have 6-foot wingspans and reach speeds over 200 mph.

ParkZone FW-190 Packaging
This package for a radio control replica of the German Focke-Wulf 190 fighter plane has a weathered logotype and silver metallic ink.

Microflex Reference Guide
This flip-book was made to help Shure representatives quickly access any information about the Microflex line of microphones that they might need while consulting clients out in the field.

Spektrum Branding
Spektrum is a radio control brand that uses innovative new technology to manufacture receivers and transmitters that eliminate interference. The logo was designed to read well at small sizes and remain faithful when molded in plastic or laser-etched into a product. Various packaging, labels, ads and collateral were produced. Though the company has gone in a slightly different direction, the logo is still in use.

2008 Pro Boat Catalog
The industry leader in radio control boating, Pro Boat, wanted a new look for a new year. Exciting running shots and a tattoo-like motif reflect a high-speed racing pedigree, while the insets highlight the technology the customer cares about most.
Ad Club Gold Award, 2007.

Evolution Engines Brochure
This is a brochure for another model aircraft engine brand in the Horizon Hobby family of brands. Evolution represents the next step in the industry and needed their consumer facing materials to reflect that idea. To differentiate Evolution from other brands, the photos were shot in a darkened room and the product was "painted" with a light source during a long exposure.

Antonin Artaud Book Concept
This self-initiated project is a redesign of the MoMA book Antonin Artaud: Works on Paper. It contains self-portraits and other artwork made while he was institutionalized. Getting into the book is a process of first, removing the "spell" handwritten by Artaud himself, then through multiple depictions of the artist from realistic to abstract. Die cuts suggest the layers of psychoses that troubled him and sort of allow you to "see into" the man.

Erotism Book Concept
This redesign of the book Erotism: Death and Sensuality by the french surrealist writer and philosopher, Georges Bataille, explores the link between sexual and religious experiences, taboo and transgression — good design project material. I wanted to make this book appear both seductive and dangerous, so the pseudo-religious icon on the front partially hides a wound that has worn through to the back cover.

The Consumer Book Concept
A redesign of The Consumer by Michael Gira, founder of the band, Swans. This collection of horror stories deals with themes like self-loathing, mental decay, loss of identity, murder and rape. I decided to have these same themes "consuming" him through the awkward crop on the cover photo. The iconography on the back reinforces the connection to his musical work that devoted fans will pick up on.

USRA Poster Concept
This concept was a proposal for the USRA World Championship Series that was rejected in favor of something a little more traditional. I really dug the large type. But just because I thought it was pretty doesn't mean it was the best solution. It didn't resonate well with the target audience. But then again, I guess you never know unless you try.
